The
basic design of this new shopping complex echoes the mud architecture
of Africa - the towering mosques of Timbuktu, the Emir's palaces
of Northern Nigeria, the ornate mud palaces of Southern Morocco,
and of course the architecture of the East African Coast, including
Lamu, Mombasa and Zanzibar. Inside, the African Trader Gallery celebrates
the sumptuous textiles, sculpture, and unique handicraft from Africa.
The
African Bead
In over 30 illuminated
showcases, THE AFRICAN BEAD takes visitors on a tour of human history
in Africa from 10000 B.C., through its beads, the chief item of
trade to Africa from the Middle East, Asia and Europe for over two
millennia. |
